20 Idea Method, does it work?

I'm not sure how many people today, still keep a journal since the birth of handheld technology. I have been doing this for years now and I actually enjoy jotting down my experiences, the things I learned, and my hopes and dreams in a physical notebook. I love being able to look back and see what I prayed for, what my thoughts were, and also see what I have accomplished from a year ago. One of the key things I found that I did, that helped me achieve my goals was the 20 idea method.

I was browsing social media one day and I came across this guy who talked about the 20 idea method. I don't remember him now, since it was a while ago since I saw his video. Sorry buddy, I couldn't credit you for this one but thank you anyway for the little tidbit of inspiration to get me to actually do it!

So the 20 idea method is a way of brainstorming to solve a problem at hand or to attain goals you have planned.

In order for this to work, you have to be very specific in what you want to achieve. Let's say, your goal is to earn more money in the next year. Grab a physical pen and paper or open your journal, and write on top of the page: "What can I do to make 100k in 12 months?". Then list 20 things you think you can do to achieve this goal. The things you write down should be specific and achievable. I mean if you are not a doctor, you can't write on your list to apply for hospital jobs as a neurosurgeon. Like...hello!

Write down things you know you can do and have a timeline in mind of when you would like to achieve this. Most of the time, we set out to do something and never finish it because it did not have a deadline. Aim to do something from your list everyday towards achieving this goal. It only requires ONE thing from your list each day!

I remember writing my list and struggling to complete the twenty things to do. It took me almost six weeks before I could complete my twenty ideas. I knew that I wanted my list to be very specific and I took my time to think of practical applications for myself. I also forgave myself when I found it difficult to stick to the list.

One of the ideas I wrote on my list that I wanted to share with all of you was, "Have the courage to advocate for myself and my product. GROW THAT THICK SKIN!"

So I encourage you today, if you have things you want to achieve in your life, write your 20 ideas down! Intentionally act like the person you want to become then you will eventually transform into that person you wanted to become.

"Before you can do something, you must first be something." -Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe.
